Community Garden Spring Resource Fair (March 28th, 2009)

Parade of Community Gardens (August 22, 2009)

2009 Community Garden Spring Resource Fair

Saturday, March 28th
9:00-4:00pm

Unity Church-Unitarian, St. Paul

Thank you to everyone who made this day possible: our presenters, exhibitors, sponsors, and volunteers! This was a group effort to connect gardeners to resources and to each other (for there is no better resource!).

A special thanks to Unity Church for making it so easy and lovely to have the Resource Fair in their "home".

A resounding Thank You to Ramsey County Commissioner Toni Carter for getting us off on a good foot and opening the event.

And Thank You to Paula Westmoreland from Permaculture Research Institute-Cold Climate for sharing principles for both the garden and gardeners.

And THANK YOU to our Town Hall Presenters!
Cam Gordon (Mpls City Council), Anne Hunt (Sustainability Director for St. Paul Mayor Coleman), Karen Nikolai (Hennepin County Planning), Ken Meter (Crossroads Resource Center), and Mark Granlund (St. Paul Parks & Recreation)

Minneapolis & St Paul City Councils will be passing resolutions proclaiming August 22nd as "Community Garden Day", honoring EACH AND EVERY COMMUNITY GARDEN and the hard work that EVERYONE contributes to making these green spaces community assets.

For that reason, if you have the ability to be at your city council meeting, please be there and bring someone with you.

It does not matter whether you belong to a garden or if your garden is on the Parade or not, this event and these resolutions are for the benefit of the entire community gardening community.

The entire process takes only 15-30minutes. Let the city council know just how important these green spaces are to our neighborhoods. You won't need to say anything -- your presence will say it all.

Council meeting tidbits can be found at the "Nuts and Bolts of Attending a City Council Meeting" section on page two of Engaging City Hall.

See you there!

You can see online video of some community gardens in Minneapolis that were on the Parade of Community Gardens online at: http://mtn.org/Video/community/mnn.html. Both 2006 and 2007 Parades can be viewed, just scroll to the bottom of this link and look for Segments #96 (2007) and #91 (2006).
