Funding Opportunities
Grants to Community Organizations for Land Testing and Remediation
The Minnesota Community Land Trust is offering grants to nonprofits and community organizations in Hennepin County for land testing and remediation. Grants are given to fund testing for lead, asbestos and other hazardous materials in property that is being reviewed for demolition or rehabilitation. Projects range in size from community garden soil tests to building inspections. Grants may also be used for minor remediation with opportunities to use information gained from initial assessments to access additional funds from the county for larger projects. Applications are accepted year round, with typical grants between $1,000 and $7,000. All properties needing assistance must be owned by the applicant or have a purchase agreement in place. If you have any questions or are interested in applying, call Brett Costain at 612-238-8753
Permanent Water Access Funding Available for Minneapolis Gardens
The City of Minneapolis has funding available for community gardens interested in installing permanent water access. The grants are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
This is a matching grant up to $2000 (so the garden would need to match whatever the grant request is for. So, if $2000 in funds came from the city grant, the garden would need to provide a $2000 match.) All new water access will be metered and will be paid for by the garden. You can find more details and the application here.
