Local Food Resource Hubs
A collaboration of individuals and organizations are working together to develop neighborhood-based local food resource hubs that would support growing, selling and preserving of food by households, community gardeners, and urban farmers all within their community.
This concept was inspired by a presentation by Ashley Atkinson, Greening of Detroit, during the 2010 Community Garden Spring Resource Fair this March.
Ashley and staff from the Detroit Garden Resource Collaborative will be joining us again for three days, September 12-14, for hoophouse building, sharing how they do it in Detroit, and working with us to develop an metrowide action plan for Resource Hubs. View the Agenda
Please register for this working conference so that we can plan for enough food and materials and space (click here to do so) There is no fee to participate, but donations help cover unfunded costs.
If you are interested in helping to create a Resource Hub, please let us know by filling out the Interest Form
Community people will be critical to the development and success of Resource Hubs

What
are community gardens?
Community gardens provide opportunities to grow
food, to share traditions between cultures and generations, to create
habitable environments, and most importantly to build community. The multiple benefits of community gardens extend far beyond a garden's borders!
Our working definition...
A community garden is any space where
plants are grown and maintained by a community to meet the needs of
that community
Gardening Matters provides training and resources to support community gardeners in achieving community gardens that are successful and sustainable.
We do this by connecting gardeners to each other (no better resource than each other!) by hosting the community gardener listserv (COMGAR) where gardeners share opportunities and advice. And sharing information about the region's wealth of community gardens through the online map.
Check out our online factsheets for tips gathered from gardeners locally and nationally on community garden topics!
We look forward to working with you on making our communities more livable and more resilient, building community through enhancing community food systems.
