Hennepin County Gardens

Gardening Matters is working with Hennepin County SHIP Active Living and Blue Cross and Blue Shield's Healthy Eating Minnesota to help fund new and expanding community gardens that will improve health and access to fresh produce in selected suburban Hennepin County cities.  Nine community gardens received funding for 2011!

More about the funding:

SHIP is funded by the Minnesota Department of Health to establish sustainable community gardens for the purpose of increasing opportunities for active lifestyles and healthy eating, and decreasing the incidence of diet-related chronic disease.

HEM is funded by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota's Center for Prevention, and is focused on increasing access to fresh fruits and vegetables.

We are grateful that the MN Department of Health and BCBS are supporting commuity gardens and recognizing the key role that they can play in improving food access and supporting healthy lifestyle changes in our communities!
