Ramsey County Compost Information

Ramsey County no longer has free compost available for community gardens for the 2012 season. Please see further resources listed below for other sources of compost for your community garden.

Ramsey County's Yard Waste Sites have free compost for Ramsey County Residents. PLEASE NOTE: In the spring, this compost also runs out rather quickly. Visit http://www.co.ramsey.mn.us/ph/rt/brush_compost_yardwaste.htm for a list of compost site locations.

Free Compost for Community Gardens
Ramsey County will deliver between 6 and 12 cubic yards of finished compost to community gardens during the month of April 2012. Due to our limited supply, our target gardens for compost deliveries are community gardens with plots available to anyone in the community looking to grow and eat fruits and vegetables. Compost deliveries are intended to be shared among plots at each garden.

In order to place a compost order for a community garden please email (pete.miller@co.ramsey.mn.us) or fax (651-266-1177, Attention: Pete Miller):

  • the desired volume of compost (between 6 and 12 cubic yards)
  • a map or schematic of the site (include an "x" marking the spot for dumping compost)
  • Please stake the drop spot with a "compost here" sign

Thank you to Ramsey County for making compost available to community gardens!
